Free & Fair Elections
In the United States, while every citizen is granted the fundamental right to vote, numerous obstacles have emerged over the past five decades that undermine this democratic privilege. Strict voter ID laws have made it increasingly difficult for some individuals to exercise their rights, while restrictions on voter registration continue to disenfranchise many eligible voters. Moreover, cuts to early voting hours further limit access, particularly for those with demanding schedules. The practice of purging voter rolls also raises concerns about whether eligible citizens are being unfairly removed from lists, jeopardizing their ability to participate in elections. These barriers challenge the core democratic principle of universal suffrage and necessitate ongoing advocacy for more accessible voting practices.
